Marian C. Nicks-Walker, 67, of Granger, IN, affectionately known as “Pookie”, was born in South Bend, IN to the late Minnie L. Brown and Henry Miller, Jr on September 6, 1952 and passed away on May 7, 2020 at Center for Hospice. 

Marian was a lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana.  She was a graduate of John Adams High School Class of 1970 where she was a cheerleader all 4 years.  Marian attended 1 year of college and then went on to work at the Michigan City Prison.  In December 1981, Marian graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and became a Police Officer for the South Bend Police Department where she protected and served the community until her retirement as Detective Sergeant on January 25, 2011.  After her retirement she was a special deputy for St. Joseph County Police Department.  Marian was also an avid member of the South Bend Eastside Reunion Committee where she served as secretary from 2005 to 2011.

Marian leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Brent Walker of Granger, IN; one daughter, Melissa C. Nicks of  Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Maurice Miller of Indianapolis, IN; 4 grandchildren: Myla, Daneen, Madisyn and Marcus; and a host of nieces, nephews and very special friends.

Marian was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dewey and Christine Whiteside; paternal grandparents Ola B. Miller and Henry Miller, Sr., Mother Minnie L. (Whiteside) Miller-Brown; father Henry Miller, Jr.; step-father Daniel L. Brown; son Marcus A. Miller; aunt Louise Kemp; sister Marilyn J. Wright; brother-in-law Nathaniel J. Wright and special cousin Ralph Woods. 

Services for Marian C. Nicks-Walker will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Palmer Funeral Home - West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and services at 12:00 noon.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetary.
