In Memory
Dale Warren Smith
Dale Warren Smith, 87, passed away on June 22, 2024, having lived a meaningful life that touched many. Born on July 13, 1936, in South Bend, IN, to Harold and Dorothy (May) Smith, Dale's roots ran deep in the community he would call home throughout his life.
For over two decades, Dale served as a skilled draftsman at The Troyer Group, where his precision and expertise contributed significantly to the firm's projects. His strong sense of civic duty shone through his service as a trustee for River Park Methodist Church and his active participation as a Mason with St. Joseph Lodge #45. Dale and Marlene attended and danced the night away at the Masonic Social Club. He was quite a polished ballroom dancer. His professional involvement also included a membership with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (A.S.H.R.A.E.), where he shared his knowledge and passion with fellow members.
Dale's wisdom and kindness defined his relationships with friends and family. He was the loving husband to the late Marlene (Dahl) Smith and the cherished father to Janice (Rick) Hill Madlem and Susan (Scott) Ankney, all of South Bend. He was supremely proud of his grandchildren, Alex Hill and Gabrielle (Brandon) Julian. Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy, his daughter Nancy Riland, and his sister Beverly Miller, Dale's memory will continue to be celebrated by those who knew him.
An avid fisherman, Dale found solace and joy by the water at their lakefront cottage in Bear Lake, Michigan. A lifetime of memories were made with the family, skiing and fishing. Dale Warren Smith will be forever remembered as a loving, kind, and wise man whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
No services are being held at this time, Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dale’s honor may be given to River Park United Methodist Church, 920 South 23 rd Street, South Bend, IN 46615
