Floyd Troub, Jr.

Aug. 22, 1936 - Jan. 16, 1968

Services for Lt. Cmdr. Floyd Troub Jr., 31, former South Bend resident who was killed Jan. 16 in a plane crash in Japan, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Ft. Myer Chapel, Washington, D.C.  Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Charles A. Lightner of South Bend and eight fellow Navy officers of Cmdr. Troub will serve as pallbearers. Memorial donations may be made to the Shrine Crippled Children’s Hospital, Chicago.

Cmdr. Troub was one of 12 Navy men killed near Iwa Kuni, Japan, when their plane, part of an anti-submarine warfare operation, was returning to its base and crashed into a mountain.

The 11 year veteran of the Navy was born on Aug. 22, 1936, in South Bend. A 1954 graduate of John Adams High School, he attended Olivet College for three years before joining the Navy.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Floyd Troub, 1339 Sunnymede Ave.; his widow, Elaine and two daughters, ages 2 and 3, all of Sunnyvale, Calif., and two sisters, Miss Evelyn Troub, Sterling, ILL., and Mrs. Donald Camp, Niles.

He was a member of South Bend Lodge 294, F & AM: Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of South Bend, and Orak Temple.
