In Memory
Joseph (Joe) Raymond Crimmins, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and South Bend Community enthusiast, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 9, 2024, at the age of 59, after a battle with Brain Cancer.
Joe was the son of the late Martha and Frederick Crimmins and grew up in a loving home in South Bend with his siblings, Dianne (Robert Humphrey), James (Mary Sue), Beatrice (Joe Kaczmarek), Daniel (Julie), Samuel (Martin Wood) and Amy.
Joe graduated from Indiana University South Bend and quickly went to work at Teachers Credit Union learning every facet of the banking industry. This knowledge prepared him for a lifelong career in land transaction real estate and property management. Joe possessed a unique ability to see the possibilities in spaces, buildings and people. He never let a wall get in his way and was always willing to take on a project or lend a hand.
On November 16, 1991 he married Kathleen Costello. The children of this 32 year union: Alysse (Harvey Mills), Megan, and Nicholas were the lights of Joe’s life. Through this union Joe gained Mother-in law Esther and six additional siblings: Gina (Tom), Rebecca (John), Amy (Pete), Laura (Matt), Paul and Ken (Laurie). He was preceded in death by his Father-in-law Paul Costello. He was a remarkable human who applied patience to understand the unique needs of people.
Loving his family, that included several extended family members, friends, and community was Joe’s passion throughout his lifetime. This commitment to community lead him to voluntarily serve many organizations that included: Logan Center, Near Neighborhood Housing Services of South Bend, SBCS Rebranding/Marketing, CTE Architectural Drafting & Design and John Adam’s Parent Group.
Joe’s family would like to thank all who invested their time, talent, and resources during Joe’s illness. We could not have kept Joe home and comfortable without the assistance of everyone. This is especially true of his Nurse, Nichole and CNA, D’trice.
A memorial honoring Joe’s life will be held on his birthday, June 20th at Izaak Walton League from 3 to 5 PM. Bring your walking shoes and join us to celebrate Joe in one of his favorite places. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to Reins of Life or Logan Center in his honor, as these were organizations near and dear to his heart.
