Lamar H Taylor

LAMAR H. TAYLOR

On December 16, 2022, heaven welcomed a beloved son, father, brother, cousin, grandfather, and friend upon the passing of Lamar Hollis Taylor, Sr. He was the eldest son, born to Hollis and Marguerite (Robinson) Taylor in South Bend, IN, on April 23, 1964. He departed this life unexpectedly at the age of 58.

Lamar was a proud son of the East Side, where he graduated from Perley Elementary School, Jefferson Middle School, and John Adams High School. He earned varsity letters on Adams' Basketball, Football, and Wrestling teams before going on to earn his bachelor's degree in Business Management from Lane College in Jackson, TN, where he was an integral player on the 1982 SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Championship Football team.

Known to many as "Big Herm" - for his towering similarities to the Herman Munster sitcom character - Lamar was a force of nature, both in spirit and in stature. He was unanimously revered by his many friends for being brutally honest, funny, selfless, full of laughs, and always ready for an adventure.

He loved children, especially his grandchildren, and spent many years working with youth at the Family & Children's Center before transitioning to the manufacturing industry as a forklift driver. To know him was to love him, and he could light up any room with a funny remark, a hearty laugh, and his easy smile. He was a fighter, he loved his Celtics, and would literally give the shirt from his back.
Lamar leaves to cherish his memory both parents, Hollis Taylor of Danville, IL, and Marguerite Taylor of South Bend, IN; brother, Moswen Taylor of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Jacqueline Taylor of South Bend, IN; Erica Robinson of Danville, IL; daughters, Keonnis Taylor of Oakland, CA, Ramal Taylor of Houston, TX, Julayna Law (Edward) of Savannah, TX, son Lamar Taylor, Jr. (Demornay) of Huntsville, AL; fiancée, Dameka Dickerson of South Bend; great aunts, Evelyn Robinson Smith of Cleveland, OH, Mary Etta Jackson of Danville, IL; aunts, Myra Carter, Mary Mattai, Maria Mitchell (Michael Watkins), and uncles Marshall and Marcus Robinson, 9 grandchildren, his beloved godsister, Mary "Happy" Cherry, and a host of heartfelt friends.

He was preceded in death by maternal great grandmother, Etta Bowens; maternal grandparents, Nathaniel and Renelda Robinson; paternal grandparents, Cleveland and Minnie (Taylor) Hudson; uncle, Nathaniel Robinson, Jr.; aunt, Marcia Robinson; and brother, Michael Taylor.
Lamar, although we were not expecting you to depart us so soon, we cherish the time we had with you here. We know that your spirit continues to live through your many friends and loved ones, today and forever.

Services for Mr. Taylor will be held on Tuesday December 27, 2022; 12 Noon at the historical First A.M.E Zion Church, 801 N. Eddy Street, South Bend, IN 46617. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior at First Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford's Mortuary Inc.
