Born on September 29, 1960, in South Bend, Ernie's life was a testament to the joy of simplicity and the warmth of a friendly heart.
Ernie was the beloved son of the late Carl and Suzie (Jernigan) Boatman. Though he was preceded in death by his brother Ron, Ernie's memory will be carried on by his loving wife, Connie Boatman, her children, Carl Burmbaugh and Cindy Holcomd, his son, Adam (Alecia) Boatman, his daughter, Christy (Zach) Lewis, and his adored grandchildren, Ethan and Ellie Boatman and Isabel, Lily, Hazel, and Abigail Lewis. His brothers, Steve Boatman and Carl (Kathy) Boatman, along with his sister-in-law, Mary Hanes Boatman, will fondly remember Ernie's kind spirit and gentle nature.
Ernie spent many years as a short-order cook at the Yellow Cat Cafe, where his jovial demeanor and knack for cooking brought smiles to both colleagues and customers alike. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from watching old-time Westerns on TV to cheering on his favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Ernie's love for life was infectious, and he had a unique ability to get along with everyone he met.
Those who knew Ernie appreciated his straightforward approach to life. He was a simple man who found happiness in the everyday—a delicious meal, a good game, and the company of his family and friends. His passion for cooking was only matched by his love for his family, and he often brought the two together, creating lasting memories over shared meals.
A Celebration of Life for Ernie Lee Boatman will be held to honor the man who touched so many lives with his kindness and warmth. Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
