Elmer Bryan Whitfield II

date of birth May 28 1963

date of death March 6 2013

Elmer “Bryan” Whitfield II (Lago Vista, TX) formerly of South Bend, Indiana Bryan died unexpectedly on March 6, 2013, from natural causes, while visiting his nephew Kavan Smith, in Beaverton, OR.  During his childhood,BryanattendedThomasA.EdisonElementary schooland graduated in 1981 fromJohnAdamsHigh School.  He attendedFerrisStateUniversityandIndianaVocationalTechnicalCollege. Bryan was born on May 28, 1963 in South Bend, Indiana to Elmer Tollie and Louise Marie (Van Daele) Whitfield. He was a surprise for his parents, in that he was the eighth child, but the only boy to parents who had already produced seven daughters. He was, therefore, lovingly named after his paternal Grand-father.

He was a Journeyman Voice & Data Technician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #153.  While living inIndiana, he worked at CCC inSouth Bendin the Voice Data area.

He enjoyed working on computers, and spending time with his siblings and extended family.  He immensely enjoyed his many nieces and nephews and spent time with his family inTexaswhenever possible.  While he vehemently denied it, he was almost a carbon copy of his father.  He had the same wry sense of humor, and the knack of being able to fix or build almost anything.  He spent many of his hours helping his older sisters with home projects, and they kept him busy. He’d even fix things over the phone if needed. Before he moved toTexas, he spent some time helping build really neat things, such as a tree house for two of his nephews. Sometimes, while on our family vacations, he would enlighten the group with humorous stories of his adventures as a journeyman working inIndiana. At other times, you would see him, off to the side just listening and smiling. .  His main complaint about his older sisters was his inability to “get a word in edgewise” when we all got together. We often wondered if he was the rose among the thorns or the thorn among the roses. Some of the best times, with his sisters and their families, involved hiking, kayaking and swimming, and sometimes a barbeque.   He will be sorely missed.

Surviving are his sisters, Beverly (Carl) Buss of Wakarusa, Nada (Mike) Dunn of Canton, MI, Sue (Vito) Palumbo of Elkhart, Deborah (LCDR Michael-Navy retired) Whitfield-Peterson of Liberty Hill, TX, Sharon (Scott) Whitfield-Yates of Austin, TX and Mary Jo (Chuck) Moore of Liberty Hill, TX.  Also surviving are his fourteen nephews and nieces; Lance (Nancy) and Shawn Buss of Wakarusa; Justyn Smith of Portland, OR; Kavan Smith of Beaverton, OR; Michael Palumbo of Bloomington, IN; Nicholas Palumbo of Elkhart, IN; Greg (Kara) Palumbo of Drexel Hill, PA;  Michelle Peterson; Heather (Lynn) Hebdon of Liberty Hill, TX; Ashley (Jeremy) Klinger, Friona, TX; Torean Yates of Colorado Springs, CO; Coner Yates of Austin, TX; Lucas Moore of Round Rock, TX; Jacob Moore of Liberty Hill, TX,  as well as two great-nephews and three great-nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Laura Jean; and his nephew, Timothy Peterson ofLiberty Hill,TX.

A celebration of his life will be held in Liberty Hill, Texas at 2:00 PM on Sunday July 14, 2013 at the home his sister. His family will have a private Memorial service for his cremated remains

The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a No-Kill Cat Shelter of their choice.
