Mark Christopher Van De Sompele, 51, of Garden Street, Elkhart, passed away at 5:53 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2005, of an apparent heart attack in the emergency room of Elkhart General Hospital. Mark was born on January 6, 1954, in South Bend, as the son of Maurice and Suzanne (Hull) Van De Sompele.

His father, Maurice Van De Sompele, preceded Mark in death on January 20, 2002.

On October 25, 1980, in Elkhart, he married Sylvia L Malnor. They enjoyed over 25 years of marriage. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia L Van De Sompele; their son, Nicholas L Van De Sompele; daughter, Emily M. Van De Sompele, all of Elkhart; his mother, Suzanne Van De Sompele of Mishawaka; brother, Brad (Veronica) Van De Sompele of LaGrange Park, III.; and by two sisters, Julie (Bill) Frey of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Jayne (Quinn) Wurz of Mishawaka.

Mark worked in inventory control for the Odyssey Group in Bristol, Ind., for many years and formerly worked for 17 years at E.H. Tepe Co. in Elkhart. It was there that he and Sylvia first met.

Mark was a 1972 graduate of John Adams High School and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Elkhart. Mark was an avid Notre Dame fan and sports enthusiast. He was a wonderful husband, father, son and friend and will be dearly missed by all.

Friends and family of Mark may meet from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 15, 2005, in Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, with Father Philip De Voider officiating. Burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery in Elkhart. Memorials may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to the American Heart Association.
