Anthony Arvester Fleming, Sr.

Anthony Arvester Fleming, Sr.

November 1, 1953 ~ May 10, 2025 (age 71)

Our Heavenly Father called home a strong, courageous, and extraordinary man who loved God, his family, the stillness of the water, and the sound of good music—our hero, Anthony Arvester Fleming, Sr., beloved husband, father, granddad, brother, uncle, and friend. He heard and answered the Master’s call and transitioned from time to eternal life.

Tony, as he was affectionately called, had a genuine love for life and a servant’s heart. He was an unselfish man who would always lend a hand to help anyone in need. Tony will be remembered as a man of deep faith, exemplifying God’s love through his unwavering commitment to family and friends. He embodied true integrity through his deeds and actions and lived humbly, generously, kindly, and compassionately.

Tony found peace and joy in nature—especially fishing and being on the water, where he felt most connected to God's creation. But just as much as he loved the outdoors, music was another deep passion of his soul. He had a special appreciation for gospel and jazz, often filling his home and heart with the sounds that lifted his spirit. His favorite artist was Marvin Winans, whose music deeply resonated with his faith and walk with God.

Tony received his formal education at Perley Elementary, Jefferson Middle School, and John Adams High School, later attending Michigan State College. A gifted athlete, he excelled in football and track. Afterward, he trained and became a certified journeyman carpenter. Tony was a talented craftsman and construction superintendent who loved his work and approached it with a spirit of excellence. A natural teacher, he generously shared both his trade skills and the Word of God—especially with the younger generation.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Arvester and Betty Fleming, and his sister Karen Tucker.

He is survived by sons Anthony A. Fleming Jr. (Skytha “Kita”) and Derrick Fleming, and grandchildren Jalen and Nia Fleming.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, laughter, and dedication. His memory will be cherished forever by his devoted wife Patricia Lane Fleming, loving sisters Diana (Guy Luckert) Fleming and Denise (Derrick) Fowler, nephew Joseph Shead Jr., bonus children Lisa, Kyron, and Kenneth Fikes Jr., and bonus granddaughters Kamiel and Gabrielle Taylor. He is also survived by sisters-in-love Perl (Hardie) Blake, Tanya Anderson, and brothers-in-law James (Yvonne) Lane and Delbert (Beverly) Lane.

Tony’s infectious laughter and sense of humor brought joy wherever he went. There was never a dull moment when he was around—he was truly the bright light in many lives.

Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, Tony’s spirit—his kindness, strength, laughter and love will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to have shared life with him and loved him.

The family would like to express our appreciation for all of the love, support, and condolences received during this most difficult time.
