Rickey Gerald Weldy, 71 years old, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 in the home that he built surrounded by his loving family.

Rickey was born on January 26, 1954 in South Bend, to the late Richard and Bertha (Lemberis) Weldy. He is also preceded in death by, his sister, Rebecca Morris, and brother, Rodney Weldy.

Rickey was a 1972 graduate of John Adams High School.

On September 14, 1974, Rickey married the love of his life, Peggy Janicki, she survives along with their children, Nicholas (Jaime) Weldy, Sara (Brian) Lawler, and Matthew (Jordy Shoemaker) Weldy; grandchildren, Madeline Weldy, Ford Weldy, Finley Weldy, Maeve Weldy, Porter Weldy, Maren Weldy; brother, Robbie (Robin) Weldy; brother-in-law, Bob Morris; sister-in-law, Kelly Weldy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Rickey was a gifted craftsman and carpenter and a proud fifty-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union Local 413. He found great joy in home projects and renovations, especially when he was helping his children. Rickey also loved yard work, grilling, and rooting for the Irish and the Hoosiers. Above all else, he cherished his family and treasured every moment with them—whether attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, grilling together, or working side by side on projects at home. His legacy of hard work, compassion, and love will continue on in those he loved.

Visitation for Rickey will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, January 8, 2026 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 Mayflower Rd. South Bend, with a Memorial Service to begin at 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Rickey Gerald Weldy may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Harper Cancer Research Institute at Notre Dame.
