SOUTH BEND - Jesus called Karen Thompson (Edwards) home Tuesday afternoon, March 7, 2017, where she peacefully left earth in the comfort of her South Bend home with family. She was born on October 17, 1948 in Pinsonfork, Kentucky to the union of Charles and Eleanor Edwards, Karen will be missed dearly by everyone, especially her family. She is survived by her four children David Akers, Donna Akers, Danile Thompson, and Jack Thompson, all of South Bend, IN. Her siblings Lacy Wheeler (Linda) of Alabama, Anita Egierski of South Bend, IN, Gary Edwards (Sheila) of Wellington, OH, Kerry Edwards of Wellington, OH, and Cheryl Edwards Cossey of South Bend, IN. Her Grandchildren Briana Phillips, Emily Phillips, Karis Phillips, Cooper Thompson, and Wesley Thompson, all of South Bend. Also her three great grandchildren Jaden Burnside, Brysen Montgomery, both of South Bend, IN and Hunter Jrue Grant of Chicago, IL; and a host of many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Karen attended Adams High School in South Bend, IN where she went on to Ivy Tech to graduate with a degree in nursing. Her career as an LPN began at Healthwin Nursing Home. She also had the pleasure of taking care of others at Cardinal Rehabilitation Center, Countryside Nursing, and finally ending her career as the ADON at Portage Manor. She touched lives of whomever she came in contact with, solely off of her kind and genuine spirit. Karen loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age. She was a prayer warrior and would be in constant prayer for anyone that God put on her mind. She belonged to a home fellowship where the focal point was praising and worshipping her Lord and Savior with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She welcomed everyone with open arms and knew no strangers. She was known as Kay to her close friends and siblings, Aunt Kay Kay to all her nieces and nephews, and Mawmaw to her grandchildren, all of their friends, and her great grandchildren. She loved her family more than anything and she always was ready to cook a big meal. She had a passion for cooking and collecting recipes, she was known for her famous peanut butter pies. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading the Bible. Oh taste and see that the Lord is good, Psalms 34:8 one of many of her favorite scriptures. She was preceded in death by, her mother and father Charles and Eleanor Edwards, sister Deborah Wilson (Edwards), and brother-in-law Jack Egierski (Anita). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN.
