William John Carpenter - Class Of 1974

William John Carpenter

William John Carpenter

Jan. 14, 1656 - Nov. 15, 2021

William John Carpenter passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 15, 2021. William was born on June 14, 1956 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Reginald Douglas Sr. and Mildred Wynona (Samuels) Carpenter.

William married Elizabeth Ann Walsh on November 25, 1989. William and Ann were blessed with 5 children: Caley (Joseph) Prichard, Mary Carpenter, Rebecca (Tyler) Thibodeaux, Peter Carpenter, and Theresa (James) Shaw. He now watches over his wife, children, and future grandchildren. Also surviving are nephews, Glen, Steve and Jim Carpenter.

William was preceded in death by his grandson John Prichard, and his brother Reginald Carpenter Jr.

William was a talented man, who shared his talents in two different careers. He was a panel electrician, until he went to college to become a teacher. He had a full career, retiring from the South Bend School System. Bill impacted many lives through his many years of teaching and coaching. He combined his two careers, educating those wanting to pursue a career in electrical work at Ivy Tech.

William "Billy" grew up on Birch Lake in Vandalia, MI, thus cultivating a love for all things lake life – boating, sailing, scuba diving, swimming, and fishing. He gained life-long friends through the lake. He passed his love for lake life to his children and wife, ultimately returning to a life on the lake in Edwardsburg, MI.

William was first to volunteer and extend a helping hand to anyone in need. William put all others before himself, no matter the time of day or night. He was able to make friends from strangers with his innate storytelling abilities. He will be truly missed by all the lives he touched over the many years.

A visitation will take place at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd., from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 24832 US 12, Edwardsburg, MI on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN.
