Richard “Lee” Hendricks – South Bend, Indiana, Lee passed away May 25, 2001 after a seven year battle with colon cancer. When Lee was given the original diagnosis (stage 3) in 1994 he was only given four months to live but with the exception of the last six months he went on to live a quality life for six more years. After high school Lee graduated from Notre Dame, moved to Dallas, TX and was successful doing free-lance art for various magazines, book covers, etc. Lee also played in a band. Eventually Lee returned to South Bend and worked for WNDU as the art director. Keep in mind this was all before computers, meaning it had to be real art. Lee is survived by his mother, four sisters and his fiancée, Rebecca LeVeque. The song “White Bird” by 60s band, It’s a Beautiful Day, was playing when Lee’s soul flew into the clouds.
This information was submitted by Lee’s sister, Sara Hendricks, Class of 75.
