Robert Jay Julian

Apr. 6, 1955 - Sep. 6, 2012

MISHAWAKA - Robert "Jay" Julian, 57, of Mishawaka, died on Thursday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka following a sudden illness. Such a loving and giving giant of a man, he was born April 6th, 1955 at Paris Hospital in Paris, Illinois. Robert Jay Julian I came as quite a surprise to his parents, Robert and K. Maxine Julian, who were expecting to have another girl. So unexpected, they let the doctor name him, as they never picked out any boy names. Both of his parents are now deceased as is a great nephew, Julian Dahan.

Jay is survived by his pride and joy, a son, Robert "Bobby" Eugene Julian II and his mother, Shelby Sheehan of Byron Center, Michigan. Also, two sisters, Linda Dahan and Rebecca (Dewey) McFarland, both of Mishawaka. Jay has two nieces, Jennifer McFarland of Mishawaka and Nicole Dahan of Mesa, Arizona; and four nephews, Joseph (Natasha) McFarland of South Bend, Christopher Romine, Michael (Amanda) and James Dahan, both of Mishawaka. There are several great nieces and great nephews also.

Jay overcame illness as a young child to become a great strong man. He was employed by Empire Machines of Niles, Michigan as a tool and die maker. He loved to coach little leagues when Bobby was younger, but as he grew older, he was an active bowler who bowled at Chippewa, Regal and Parkway Lanes. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers Fan.

Jay loved his family very much and was a great single dad to Bobby, whom he was so proud of. Jay would also help out anyone he could, giving the last money in his pocket if necessary. He never knew a stranger and loved to go to his favorite coffee shops just to talk with people he met and made lifelong friends with.

Recently purchasing a Harley, he would ride in several bike rides for charity -- the latest, for MDA. He loved to pick up his great niece, Katie, and take her for rides. He has her hooked on being a Harley rider one of these days.

Jay was such a clown at times, but loved to tease his nieces and nephews by saying "Come give mean old uncle Jay a hug". A lover of life, Jay will be greatly missed by his son, Bobby, family and the many friends who knew and loved him. R.I.P Robert Jay Julian I.

A memorial service will be held at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka on Friday, September 14th at 7:00 pm. Friends will be received one hour prior to the services, Friday.
