SOUTH BEND - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael David Powell, DVM at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, Canada. We would like to thank all those for their care and friendship during Michael's three month battle with lymphoma. Surviving are Michael's father and mother, Lewis and Ellen Powell of South Bend, IN (and recently of Cincinnati, OH); brother Jon Powell of San Diego, CA; brother and sister-in-law Jan and Jamie Powell of Cincinnati, OH; sister Julie Zigler of St. Petersburg, FL; and six nieces and nephews.

Michael was born and raised in South Bend, IN and graduated with honors from the college of veterinarian Medicine at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He moved to Saskatoon in 1981 to intern at the University of Saskatchewan, and then practiced at Central Animal Hospital, Saskatoon, for the following 34 years. His professional demeanor and love for life was truly one of a kind! As many clients and friends have commented, if ever anyone was born to be a veterinarian, it was Michael.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (436 Spadina Cres. E.) in Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's honor to the Saskatoon SPCA (5028 Clarence Ave, Grasswood, SK S7T 1A7) or to SCAT Street Cat Rescue (2750 Faithfull Ave #108, Saskatoon, SK S7K 6M6).

Michael D. Powell, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine – Saskatoon, Canada, Mike passed away after a three-month battle with lymphoma.  After graduating from Purdue University, Mike moved to Alaska to intern at the University of Saskatchewan and then went on to practice at the Central Animal Hospital in Saskatoon for 34 years.  His professional demeanor and love of life was truly one of a kind.  As many clients and friends have commented, “If ever anyone was born to be a veterinarian, it was Michael”.
