Phyllis J. Laughman

 Oct. 7, 1933 - Jan. 16, 2012 

 Phyllis J. Laughman, 78, residing in South Bend, IN passed away at 1:35 PM Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.

She was employed with Studebakers then Gerber Manufacturing. Later she owned and operated, with her husband, the Chevron Cafe on Miami Street, South Bend.

Phyllis was born on October 7, 1933 in South Bend, IN to Harold and Loretta (Lambert) Vermillion and remained a lifelong resident.

On June 3, 1952 in South Bend, IN she married Robert E. Laughman, who preceded her in death on September 6, 2004. Phyllis is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Larry) Ault of South Bend, Sharon (Tom) Weston of Mishawaka and Pamela (Scott) Hancz of South Bend; one son, Michael Laughman of South Bend; twelve grandchildren, Kelly (Mickey) Standiford, Bryan (Megan G.) Ault, Kevin (Mary) Ault, Justin (Leighanne) Ault, Landon (Sonia) Ault, Darrin (Tami) Ault, Robb (Jamie) Weston, Stacy (Jeff) Stout, Brad (Leslie) Weston, Sara (Steve Reynolds) Weston, Brendan Hancz and Corey Hancz.

Also surviving are nineteen great-grandchildren, Megan, Matelyn, Kaden, Criselda, Pedro, Sabe, Kaleb, Gavin, Benjamin, Luci, Polly, Joey, Evie, Kotie, Breydan, Brock, Jake, Ryan and Rachel; two brothers, Dale (Jean) Vermillion of Oregon and Dean (Joan) Vermillion of Florida; and her brother-in-law, Lane Hodges of North Carolina. Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Hodges.

Phyllis was known for her fabulous homemade soups. She enjoyed the visits with her siblings when they came into town. Phyllis graduated from John Adams High School in 1951. She enjoyed many years of camping at Camp Wildwood, Edwardsburg, MI. Phyllis was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 303.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2012 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN . Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday in the funeral home.
