Kim Regan W Zahrt - Class Of 1970 VIEW PROFILE

Kim Regan W Zahrt

Kim R.W. Zahrt, 61, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN. He was born the second of five children on August 5, 1952 in Fort Knox, KY to the late Robert and Shayrrl Zahrt. Kim lived in South Bend for the majority of his life. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1970 and played varsity football throughout his high school years. He married Robyn L. Lake (who survives) in 1978. Kim owned and operated Building Management and Supply in the 1980's and in succeeding years worked as maintenance supervisor of several large apartment complexes both in Indianapolis and South Bend. He battled back from a major stroke in 1998 and returned to school to earn a bachelor's degree in education. He spent the remainder of his working years teaching math, computer and physics at New Prairie High School, New Carlisle, IN. He loved teaching and loved his students and kept in touch with many of his former students via Facebook. Many students' Facebook posts assert that Kim was a much-loved teacher who had a very positive impact on their lives. His philosophy was that the needs of the individual student were primary. He often said, "I teach students, not physics." Kim was very much a "people person" who loved to joke and relished discussion and debate of everything from philosophy to politics to scientific theory. He enjoyed reading about quantum physics and all things science-related and dearly loved to quote and expound upon the ideas of his favorite scientist (student chorus here), Richard Feynman. Right kids? Surviving Kim are his wife, Robyn and their two sons, Auston W. Zahrt of Seattle, WA and Taylor M. Zahrt of South Bend, IN, four siblings, Robert (Rochelle) Zahrt Jr., Sandra (David) Naegle, Carl (Mary) Zahrt, Dale (Pam) Zahrt, ten nieces and nephews and fourteen grandnieces and grandnephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services, South Bend are assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Kim R. W. Zahrt may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 115 S.
