Richard Troy Hendrickson

Richard Troy “Dick” Hendrickson, 89, passed on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in Memorial Hospital.
Richard was born on May 22, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Troy D. and Thelma A. (Ketchum) Hendrickson.
Richard lived in River Park his entire life, married his wife there, Sharon Lee (Gyorgyi) on March 22, 1959, and raised their sons, Richard, Douglas (Gaby), Jonathon, Robert (Amy) and Joseph. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melina, Kyra, Mara, Lucca and Ryan, and brothers Roger and Carl (Anita).
Richard went to John F. Nuner School, John Adams High School, and graduated in 1957 from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the band throughout his academic career and was proud to be a member of the Purdue band.
He had a lifelong career as an engineer with Bendix and took great pride with his involvement with the Talos and Typhon missile programs, and later with the automotive braking division.
He was an engineer at home too, fixing cars and home breakdowns, and building home improvements like a pro. He enjoyed serving as Cub Scout Master for troop 507, and his passions were gardening, old cars, WWII planes, reading war history, and being a grandfather.
The visitation gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, September 20th at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, a time to share condolences and memories.
