In Memory
Donald Schuyler Leslie
March 16, 1935 ~ April 16, 2025 90 Years Old
Donald (Don) Schuyler Leslie went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 16, 2025, at the age of ninety.
Don was born to Henry and Lela Leslie on March 16 ,1935, in South Bend, IN. Don met his wife, Gwendolyn Leslie in 1951 on a blind date and they were married on June 19, 1954. They have two sons, Kent and Scott, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, Don was an avid gardener, loved to play trains and fly RC airplanes. He was a journeyman machinist by trade and continued to make parts and small-scale engines after retiring from A Quality. He was a faithful member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in South Bend his entire life holding various positions over the years, still ushering at 90. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with others and led by example for his family and friends to witness.
Along with his late wife, he was a longtime member of Heston’s Historical Steam Society, dedicating many weekends giving rides on the “little trains”. All of his grandchildren and great grandchildren have great memories of riding the trains with Grandpa and having family gatherings. He was also a long-time member of the Tri Valley RC Club, enjoying flying remote-controlled airplanes and the camaraderie of the fellow pilots.
Don joins his wife, Gwendolyn, his parents, Henry and Lela, his son Kent and his sister, Marquerite in Heaven. He is survived by his son, Scott (Sara), Mary Leslie Ordo (Kent), and his grandchildren, Hannah, Travis, Aaron, Phillip, Rueben, Tristan and Trevor and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Monday, April 28 at 11:00 am, 805 S. 29th St., South Bend, IN 46616. Friends my visit with the family from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
