James Henry Tarter

James H. Tarter, 76, of Ballston Lake, beloved husband of Karen (Olsen) Tarter, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 6, 1933, he was the son of the late Henry G. and Laura M. (James) Tarter.

Jim worked for the Bendix Corp. (now Honeywell Corp.) for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer, serving in Detroit, Mich. at the Bendix Research Labs and then at the friction materials division in Green Island. He enjoyed bowling and golfing on company teams and most recently enjoyed gathering with the Bendix "Lunch Bunch" regularly. His real passion was his books and reading.

Survivors in addition to his loving wife Karen, include his stepdaughter, Vanessa Schwilling of Cohoes and his stepson, Andrew Schwilling of Kansas City, Kan.; as well as four grandchildren; several cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday from 4-6 p.m. at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Calvary United Methodist Church Building Fund, 15 Ridge Pl., Latham, NY 12110, is respectfully requested.
