Richard Allen Darnell

Richard Allen Darnell, 66, of Granger, Ind., died at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, in Memorial Hospital.
Richard was born in Mishawaka, Ind., on Oct. 5, 1933, to the late Elbert A. and June Darnell. He was a graduate of Adams High School and Indiana University. He served in the U.S. Army.
Richard was employed by the South Bend Drug Company and later by Richmond Masters Distributors. Throughout his life Richard enjoyed golf, sports cars and motorcycles, playing chess, reading and photography.
He was married to Jane Irene Mueller on Feb. 18, 1961. Richard is remembered with love and laughter by his wife, Jane; daughter, Julie and husband, James McGowan; daughter, Michelle and husband, Paul Manoguerra; granddaughter, Isabella Mano-guerra; brother, Frank Darnell; and by a sister, Susan Smith. He is also lovingly remembered by relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 7, at Welsheimer North Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Christ the King Lutheran Church, 17195 Cleveland Road, South Bend.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the University of Michigan Cancer Center, 1500 E. Medical Center Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-0843, designated to prostate cancer research or to Christ the King Lutheran Church.
