Oct. 4, 1932 – Apr. 5, 1973

Mrs. Patricia Radican, 40, of 802 Lincoln Way W., was found dead in the St. Joseph River, about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the victim of drowning, according to a coroner’s report.

Mrs. Radican’s body was found floating near the south bank of the river off Carlton St. by a fisherman who notified police. Officers using a police rescue boat recovered her body a short time later.

Mrs. Radican had been reported missing from home about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday by her father, Elmer Hammond, also of the Lincoln Way W. address.

Deputy St. Joseph County Coroner Dr. Louis H. Grwinski ordered an autopsy performed at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Grwinski today reported the cause of Mrs. Radican’s death as asphyxiation due to drowning, and ruled it a suicide. He reported that her body had been in the water for at least two days.

Mrs. Radican was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Darke County, Ohio and moved to Mishawaka from Ohio in 1940. She was employed by the Excel Corp., Elkhart.

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hammond, with whom she resided; a daughter Miss Sandra Lee Radican of Indianapolis, and a brother, Dick F. Hammond of Fort Smith, Ark.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Raymond D. Harris, pastor of the First Christian Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
