SOUTH BEND - Paul M. Rogers, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Hospice House, South Bend, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old. Paul was born August 18, 1932, in South Bend, a son of Arthur C. and Gudrun (Mortenson) Rogers, and was a 1950 graduate of John Adams High School.

On June 14, 1953, at Faith United Methodist Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia R. Baumgardner. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat of 56 years. Also surviving are three daughters, Debra (Dana) Kinney and Laura K. Tavernier, both of South Bend, and Susan (Stuart) Tucker of Marietta, GA. Five grandchildren, Daniel Kinney of Madison, WI, Diane Kinney of South Bend, Denice Kinney of Bloomington, IN, Samuel and Sara Tucker, both of Marietta, GA, survive him as well.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ron A. Rogers on September 30, 2009; a son-in-law, Paul Tavernier on April 6, 2009; two sisters, Sara Steele and Norma Rogers; and four brothers, John, James, Dale and Robert Rogers.

Paul was a plumber for 50 years. He retired from Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 166, Fort Wayne, IN. He served his country in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division, from 1952-1954. He was a member of Coalbush United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, and was formerly active at Faith United Methodist Church, South Bend, where he loved to teach Sunday school. Over the years, he was also active with St. Joseph County 4-H. Paul dearly loved his family and grandchildren.

Services celebrating the life of Paul Rogers will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, at Coalbush United Methodist Church, 15977 Jackson Road, Mishawaka, IN, with Rev. James Davidson officiating. Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, and one hour prior to services Wednesday in the church. In lieu of flowers, the Rogers family requests memorials to Coalbush United Methodist Church, or to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
