Joseph “Joe” Francis Roman, 56, of South Bend, IN, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. Joe was born on March 7, 1969 to Joseph M. and Athena “Donna” I. (Stathekikis) Roman in Joliet, IL., and lived in South Bend his entire life
. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. Roman. Joe is survived by his loving mother, Athena “Donna” I. Roman of South Bend, IN; three sisters Jodi (Patrick) Gault of Littleton, CO, Toni (Trey) LaBate of Half Moon Bay, CA, and Elizabeth Roman-Housand of Mishawaka, IN; one niece Samantha (Mike) Lindeman and their daughters Nora and Emma; three nephews Nicholas Gault, Jacob Housand, and Benjamin (Tori) Housand and their daughter Luna; and several aunts and uncles. Joe graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend, IN in 1988. In the following years, he was passionate about volunteering at community events, participating in local theatre productions, attending concerts, listening to music, watching old movies, running, and Notre Dame sports. Joe was the 2020 winner of the South Bend Civic Theatre Volunteer Award and was an extra cast member in the film, Rudy. Joe had a very gentle soul and was a devout Catholic. Although he was quiet most of the time, if you were able to engage him in conversation, he enjoyed talking about TV shows, history, and family get togethers.
