NOTRE DAME - Rosemary E. Ward, 87, residing at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN, passed away Saturday, November 24th, 2012. Rosemary was born December 18th, 1924, in South Bend, to Roy & Dorothy (Manuel) Erler. Rosemary resided in the South Bend and Elkhart communities all of her life. Rosemary was a 1943 graduate of John Adams High School.

She was employed with the United States Civil Service Commission Special Services Division in Amarillo, Texas. During the 1960s she was the Director of the Heart Association of St. Joseph County and served as the Executive Director of the United Health Foundation of St. Joseph County. In the 1970s she was the Administrator of Cardinal Nursing Home and continued her career as the Administrator/Owner of The Milton Home until her retirement in 1996. Her life's ministry was to the aged and dying, which she carried out her entire life.

She married Jack Mueller in 1945, and they were married for thirty-four years, and together had four children.

On June 21, 1980, she married Jerry Ward. She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; a son, Chris (Evelyn) Mueller of Warsaw; a daughter, Judi (Larry) Shaw of Elkhart; and another son, Jack (Korina) Mueller of Granger. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Amy (Ben) Hurwitz, Sara (Fred) Kirchhoff, Carrie Mueller, Jennifer (Anthony) Mistretta, Jessica Weaver, Ryan Shaw, Matthew Shaw, Dr. Chad (Josie) Shaw, DDS, Brett Shaw, Holly Mueller and Greg (Lisa) Mueller; six great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Charlie, Sawyer, Olivia, Fred "F.J." Jr. and Lauren.

Her parents and her son, Greg Mueller, preceded her in death.

Rosemary was a founding member of St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in South Bend and served as Senior Warden at St. John's Episcopal Church in Elkhart.

Services honoring the life of Rosemary Ward will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at church. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Holy Cross Village Quinn Memory Center for the loving care they all provided. Thanks also to Catherine Kasper Life Center for all their kindness and additional care.
