George Frederick Haslanger, 78, of Farm Lane, died at 9:10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation, South Bend, Ind., due to complications from Muscular Dystrophy.

Mr. Haslanger was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to the late George F. and Margaret (Higgins) Haslanger Sr. He lived in South Bend until 1967 when he moved to Grand Rapids, Mich. He returned to South Bend in 1988.

On June 5, 1954, he married his best friend and devoted wife, Anna Joe Games, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Cathy (David) Pettinger of Elkhart, Ind., and Linda (Edward) Wiltrakis of Hillsdale, Mich.; five grandchildren, John Crothers and Karen (David) Rohm of Elkhart, Chad (Lisa) Wiltrakis of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Aaron and Brent Wiltrakis of Hillsdale; and the joys of his life, his six great-grandchildren, Katie Crothers, Lauren, Zachery and Taylor Rohm and Grace and Sophie Wiltrakis. He will be terribly missed by his daughters and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Haslanger.

George worked for the Bendix Corporation in the Missile Division in Mishawaka until 1965. He then moved to Grand Rapids was employed by Smith Industries until retiring in 1987. George was in the second graduating class of John Adams High School and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1947. He served in the United States Navy V-12 program during World War II and the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He had been a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road with Rev. James Miller of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 22, in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
