Robert E. ''Colonel'' Parker, 70, of South Albert Street, South Bend, Ind., died after an illness on Thursday, May 1, at Hospice House of St. Joseph Coun-ty.

Mr. Parker was born on March 13, 1927, in Keno-sha, Wis., and had lived in the South Bend area for 60 years.

On June 5, 1948, in South Bend, Mr. Parker married Ida L. Jones, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Doris Sparks of Brown County, Ind.; three sons, David of Granger, Ind., Frank of South Bend and Edward of Mishawaka, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and by eight adopted grandchildren.

Mr. Parker was employed by the Bendix Corporation for 40 years and seven months, having retired in 1988. He was a World War II Army veteran; belonged to the Bendix Local 9 Retirees; American Legion Post 777, Indianapolis, Ind.; A.A.R.P.; and the Calvary Baptist Church.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home, with Chaplain Will Braniff officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
