SOUTH BEND -- Mr. Robert Plotkin, 83, passed away following an illness at 12:15 PM Tuesday, Jan. 30, in his residence in Southfield Village.

Bob was born in South Bend on August 28, 1923, to the late Charles and Sarah (Snitoff) Plotkin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Floreen. He was the former owner of Midwest Athletic Equipment.

He is survived by three nieces, Nancy (Ron) Cohen of South Bend, Phyllis (Alan) Silver of Boston, MA, and Charlene (Gary) Pippenger of South Bend; three step-children, Laura (Doug) Cole of Carmel, IN; Ed Copenhaver of Grand Rapids and Ryan Davis of Mishawaka. Also surviving are six step-grandchildren, Alex, Julia and Brooke Cole, and Lisa, Kyle and Clinton Copenhaver.

Services will be at 1:00 PM today in the chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, with Rabbi Michael Friedland officiating.

McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Plotkin entered the University of Notre Dame in 1942 but interrupted his education to join the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he served as a fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater before returning to Notre Dame in 1946 after the war.
