Albert F. Verduin, 75, residing on Stonehedge Lane, South Bend, Ind., passed away peacefully at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Verduin was born on Feb. 9, 1925, in South Bend, as the son of Lester and Bertha (Vincent) Verduin, and had been a lifelong resident of this community.

He and Norma have also spent the winters in Sarasota, Fla., for many years.

On June 13, 1948, in Niles, Mich., he married Norma J. Eberhard. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma of 52 years; three daughters, Linda and Russell Stickney of South Bend, Carol Verduin of Lutz, Fla., and Betty “B.J.” and Chuck Wilson of Elkhart, Ind., a son, John and Cynthia Verduin of Granger, Ind.; five grandchildren, Amy Stickney, Hailey Verduin, Colleen Verduin, Maureen Verduin and Scott Verduin; two sisters, Betty and Fred Tschida of South Bend and Beverly and Larry Whalen of Chandler, Texas; and by a brother, Eugene and Dorothy Verduin of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Mary K. Toth in 1973; and by a brother, Kenneth H. Verduin in 1991.

Mr. Verduin retired in 1985 as vice president-secretary of the South Bend Supply Company where he served for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War ll, serving from 1943-1946 in the European Theatre, a member of the Cathedral Church of St. James Episcopal, South Bend, a life member of V.F.W. Post 360, and a member of Eagles Lodge #2083 both of Mishawaka, Ind.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 9, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, Rev. William Hibbert will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, where members of V.F.W. Post #360 will conduct military rites.

The family received friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home. Contributions in memory of Albert F. Verduin may be made to the American Heart Association. 2410 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545, or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
