Wallace R. Gilman, 38, of St. Louis, Mo., a native of South Bend, died at 6 a.m. today in the Veterans Hospital , Hines, Ill., after a prolonged illness. Mr. Gilman was a teacher in the St. Louis public schools. He is survived by his widow, Helen; two sons, Jonathan and Keith; a daughter, Jaclyn; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sol M. Gilman, of South Bend, and a brother, Alan Gilman, of Columbus, Ohio. The body will be brought to the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home.

GILMAN – Active pallbearers at services for Wallace Gilman, of La Due, Mo., a native of South Bend, died Wednesday, will be Harold Zisla, Dr. Bernard Levitan, Harry Spigle, Arnold Gilman, Bernard Talon and Larry Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Rintzler, Dr. Martin M. Gilman, Bernard and Morton Soble, Irving Balm , Thomas St. Clair, Waldo Lee Johnson and Melvin Felder.

Mr. Gilman was born in South Bend on Feb. 21, 1926, graduated from John Adams High School in 1944, and received his A. B. and M. A. degrees from Indiana University. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today, Rabbi Albert M. Shulman of Temple Beth-El will officiate.

Interment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
