Opal May Keller

April 30, 1926 - March 28, 2009

SOUTH BEND - Opal May Keller, 82, of South Bend, passed away Saturday evening, March 28th, in her home with her family at her side. She was born April 30, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Wesley R. and Lula M. (Cline) Hawkins.

Also preceding her in death were a sister, Evelyn, and brothers, Harold, Walter, Floyd, Dallas and Wayne Hawkins. On April 12, 1944, in Orlando, FL, she married Clarence Keller Jr., who died in 2002. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Papagiannis (Stergios) of Granger, Pamela Miltenberger (Rex) of Niles, Deborah Dickens (Allan) of Carmel and Patricia Barber (Scott) of Mishawaka; and by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Opal was a wonderful wife and mother; she had worked at Sears and Roebuck in South Bend. She graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend, belonged to Moose Lodge #58 and the South Bend Turners, and was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital and a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the hospital. Opal was a longtime member of Evangel Heights United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.

Pastor Patrick Somers will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. today, April 1st, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services.
