Wayne Fredrick “Gus” Van Skyhawk

Dec.19, 1927 – Jan. 15, 1974

Wayne F. “Gus” Van Skyhawk, 46, of 3112 Rue Renoir, was dead on arrival at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital after suffering a heart attack at the YMCA.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1927, in Akron, Ohio. On April 26, 1946, in South Bend, he married Gloria Linengood, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Bessie Middlestetter of Dayton, Ohio; two sons, Dennis and David, both of South Bend; a daughter, Cheri Grontkowski of South Bend; and grandchildren; two brothers, Hugh of Bradenton, Fla., and Harry Ward of Dayton, and five sisters, Mrs. Betty Cheatham, Mrs. Richard Peacock, Mrs. Edward Myers, all of Dayton, Mrs. Kenneth Lund of California, and Mrs. Barry Brandt of Texas.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Hollis Funeral Home.

Services will be held there at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dr. Eugene Balsley of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

Mr. Skyhawk was a manufacturer’s representative.
