Garfield Eugene Walker

Garfield E. Walker, 73, of North Hickory Road, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, in Holy Cross Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, following an illness.

He was born on April 29, 1926, in South Bend, Ind., to H. Ray and Mabel G. Walker. He was preceded in death by his father. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan K. Holderread on July 8, 1994.

On Dec. 23, 1945, he married the former Yvonne L. Schroeder in Mishawaka. She survives along with a daughter, Barbara J. (Frank Jr.) Winger of Mishawaka; his mother, Mabel G. Walker; a granddaughter, Jinny (Larry Jr.) Collins of South Bend; a sister, Mary Henkler of Osceola, Ind.; and three brothers, Howard Walker of Nashville, Tenn., John Walker of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Edgar Walker of Cromwell, Ind.

He was the owner of the Garfield Walker Photography Studio of Mishawaka. Mr. Walker received national honors in the Photography Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. Mr. Walker was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on L.S.T. #534 during World War II.

He was a life long member of Albright United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee, the Mishawaka Rotary Club of Mishawaka, F & A.M. #130, Mishawaka, the Professional Photography Association of America, the Ham Radio Association, the V.F.W. Post #360, Mishawaka, and was also very active in the Chamber of Commerce.

Services for Mr. Walker will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, in the Albright United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Kenneth Mahan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney or Diabetes Associations or to Holy Cross Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.
