Rose Joan McMeel

Mrs. Joan (Getzinger) McMeel, 71, of South Twyckenham Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, in the Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. McMeel was born on Sept. 16, 1927, in South Bend, and had been a lifetime area resident.
On June 21, 1952, in South Bend, she married Dr. James E. McMeel, who survives.
She is also survived by three daughters, Janet (Mike) Orlando of Springfield, Ill., Kathleen McMeel of South Bend and Sharon (Bob) McMeel Tuite of Long Beach, Calif.; a son, James E. (Jeanne) McMeel of Carmel, Ind.; three grandchildren, Jessica Marie Orlando, Sean Michael Orlando and Kimberly Rose Orlando; three sisters, Helen Strebinger of Ohio, Mary Lou Papai of South Bend and Nancy Gibson of Texas; and by a brother, John Getzinger of Michigan.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Getzinger; and by a brother, Thomas Getzinger.
Mrs. McMeel was a retired registered nurse (RN) in the South Bend area for many years, a member of St. Matthew's Cathedral, and was a John Adams High School graduate.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. Matthew's Cathedral. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, Ind.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, where a Rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association, 615 N. Alabama, Suite 322, Indianapolis, IN 46204; or to the charity of donor's choice.
