Glenn C. ''Lefty'' Hankins, 69, of Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, Ind., died after an extended illness on Wednesday, April 2, in his home.

He was born July 6, 1927, in South Bend, Ind., to Arvilla and Clifford Hankins, both of whom preceded him in death. Glenn was a lifetime resident of South Bend.

On Sept. 16, 1950, in South Bend, he married the former Phyllis E. Blain, who survives. He is also survived by four sons, Michael E. Hankins, Timothy A. Hankins, Jeffrey E. (Regina) Hankins and James E. Hankins, all of South Bend; a granddaughter, Alexandra M. Hankins; and by a brother, Wayne M. Hankins of South Bend.

''Lefty'' pitched the Adams High School baseball team to a conference championship in 1944. He also pitched a perfect game for American Legion Post 303 in 1943. Mr. Hankins was a Navy veteran of World War II and, after his discharge in 1946, he signed a professional baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs as a pitcher. He played in their farm system for several years. He later coached in the Clay Township Junior Baseball Association.

Private family memorial services will be held. Cremation will take place. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of St. Joseph County.

Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, is in charge of arrangements.
