Jack R. Marriott, age 81, of Michigan City, died Thursday, August 6 at 12:20 a.m. at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care Center of Michigan City.


Services will be held Monday, August 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Jack Andrews officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, with full military rites by VFW Post 2536 and American Legion Skwiat Post 451 honor guards. A luncheon will be served at the church following the cemetery rites.

Mr. Marriott was born November 13, 1927 in Rochester, IN to Virgil K. and Eleanor E. (Witucki) Marriott, both of whom preceded him in death.
On March 8, 1958 in South Bend, he married Barbara Ferro, she survives in Michigan City.

Also surviving is his son Michael S. (Debbie) Marriott of Las Vegas, daughter Lori A. (Patrick) Hines of Trail Creek, grandchildren Nicole Fronczek, Jesse Hines, Alex Marriott, Jeremiah Hines, Jordan Hines and Bethany Hines, great-grandchildren Cosette Fronczek, Jade Marie Hines, Hunter Fronczek and Dean Patrick Hines, sister Patricia (Kenneth) Light of West End, NC; brothers Thomas (Noreen) Marriott of Warsaw, IN; David (Kathy) Marriott of South Bend, his best friend Al Grose of South Bend, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Marriott had been a teacher at Michigan City Rogers High School, altogether employed for 43 years with the Michigan City Area Schools until his retirement in 1993. After retirement he worked for Hertz Rental Cars in South Bend from 1993 to 2008.

Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He received his Bachelor's Degree in education at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he also received his Master's Degree in education. Mr. Marriott began his teacher career in Michigan City in 1958 at Barker Jr. High and over the years he taught at Elston High School and spent his final years at Rogers High School.

He was the current treasurer for 1st Trust Credit Union, where he served on the board of directors for over 20 years. He enjoyed traveling, camping with his family, walking, and reading about politics and history. He was an active member of the Franklin St. McDonald's coffee group. He was known to his grandchildren as the "Great Oz". He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
