Dr. Jack M. Wright, 78, of South Bend, Ind., departed this life on Wednesday, June 7, after an illness. He was born in South Bend on May 5, 1928, to Dr. Chester F. Wright and Dorothy McKenzie Wright. He had resided here his entire life.

On August 26, 1950, he married Bernadette (Bonnie) Sobecki in Michigan City, IN.

A graduate of John Adams High School, South Bend, IN, 1946, he went on to attend Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He received a D.D.S. degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, in 1952 and an M.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1956.

Dr. Wright enjoyed the private practice of orthodontics in South Bend from 1956 to 1999, after service in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 as a first lieutenant, Fort Campbell, Ky. Dr. Wright was a member of the South Bend Kiwanis Club from 1958 to 1980, a charter member of the Summit Club, a member of the Notre Dame Quarterback Club, a member of the South Bend Country Club and the Morris Park Country Club.

He was a member of the St. Joseph County Dental Society, Indiana Dental Society, American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontics and the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontics. He served on the admission committee and was general chairman of the biennial meeting in 1977.

He is survived by six children, Mrs. Susan Marx-Bohan (Edward) of Lawrenceville, Ga., Mr. Chester Wright (Deb) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Laura Renbarger of South Bend, Christopher "Skip" Wright of South Bend, Dr. Jacqueline Wright-O'Beirne of Lakewood, Colo., and Mrs. Stacey Ankony (Sam) of Mount Prospect, IL; 17 grandchildren, Major Aaron Marx, Jason Marx, Megan Marx, Maureen Marx, Kelly Bohan, Jocilyn Bohan, Anthony Wright, Bryan Wannerton, Heather Copp, Ann Renbarger, Nicholas Renbarger, Bernadette O'Beirne, Grace O'Beirne, Seamus O'Beirne, Melanie Ankony, Jack Ankony and Dana Ankony; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Marx and Audrey Marx.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, by his parents, and by four babies who died at birth.

Family and friends may call today, June 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, where a wake will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Jack's funeral Mass will be on Saturday, June 10, at 10 a.m. in St. Matthew's Cathedral. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
