James P. (Jim) Millea, 81, a native of South Bend, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Vista, CA. He was born in South Bend on November 29, 1930 to the late John and Nurma (Wils) Millea. On April 15, 1961 in South Bend, James married the former Margaret Mary Cullinan, who survives.

James was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1955 and graduated from Purdue University in 1959 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Lima, OH until 1965, followed by 20 years with Wheelabrator-Frye in Mishawaka and Pittsburgh before retiring in 1985. A devout Catholic, he was active in the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 3rd degree knight, and a member of several local parishes during his life, including St. Terese (Little Flower), St. Joseph of Mishawaka and St. Joseph of South Bend.

In addition to his loving wife, Margaret of Carlsbad, CA, James is survived by one daughter, Mary Margaret (Bruce) Wisberger of Garden Grove, CA; five sons, John (Sharon) Millea of Harmony, PA, James (Mary) Millea of Valley Center, CA, Joseph Millea of Carlsbad, CA, Paul (Lindsay) Millea of Gilroy, CA and Matthew Millea of Big Sur, CA; eight grandchildren; his twin brother, Joseph Millea of Murfreesboro, TN and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Morrison.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 226 N. Hill Street, South Bend. Burial and military graveside honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2012 in Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where a rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m., as well as 10:30 - 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at church prior to mass.

Memorial contributions in honor of James may be given to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545 (http://www.humanesocietystjc.org).
