Virginia Lee (Caron) Nelson
Virginia Lee Nelson, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2024, in her hometown of South Bend, Indiana. Born on March 9, 1931, to the late Antonia and Florence (Risk) Caron, Virginia's life was a testament to the enduring power of care and commitment.
Virginia's journey began in South Bend, where she was a light in the lives of her parents, brothers, Bob, Chuck, and Don Caron, and mother-in-law, Sandra Bauert, who all preceded her in death.
Her path was one of love and partnership, as she married Harold A. Nelson on January 26, 1952. Together, they built a life filled with joy and warmth until Harold's passing on January 3, 2014. Virginia was also preceded in death by her cherished son, Kevin H. Nelson.
Virginia is survived by her loving son, Kurtis J. Nelson of South Bend; her grandsons, Kevin M. Nelson of Mishawaka and Timothy C. Nelson of Elkhart; great granddaughter, Ella Nelson; along with her special niece, Cheryle Ann Schlarb of South Bend.
A wonderful homemaker, Virginia poured her heart into caring for her family. Her hands were rarely still, as she expressed her creativity and skill through her work as a seamstress. She greatly enjoyed her time of service at Indiana University South Bend. Her time with neighborhood friends and her family were cherished by Virginia.
Virginia was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, South Bend.
A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at 12:00 Noon, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, located at 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather and share memories from 11:00am on Thursday until the time of services.
