Elkhart, Indiana – Lenore Fern (Tucker) Cassady passed away peacefully on July 8th, 2026  at the Living Wisdom Center of Hubbard Hill.

Lenore was born In Mishawaka, Indiana on October 25th, 1930 to the late Leonard Tucker and Fern (Russell) Tucker.  Lenore was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Tom Cassady, her brother Leonard, her eldest child Linda Cassady Brasseur and grandson- in-law James Spendley.

Lenore is survived by her son-in- law Gregg Brasseur of Benton Harbor , MI;  her son Bruce (Judy) Cassady of Edwardsburg,   MI; son  Tom (Barbara) Cassady of Vandalia, MI; and her daughter Amy (Tom Holdeman) of Edwardsburg ,MI: 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.   We were blessed that all of the children and grandchildren were able to visit with her in the week leading up to her passing.

Lenore was raised in South Bend, Indiana graduating from John Adams High School in 1949 and attended St. Mary’s College.  Lenore met the love of her life, Tom, while attending John Adams and they were married while Tom was serving in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Lenore worked at Miami Florist and gained a love and skill for flower arranging. She always had beautiful flowers in and around her home.

Lenore was very proud of her English and Canadian heritage visiting both places many times. Lenore was a lifelong Episcopalian and attended St. Michael’s in South Bend where she prepared floral arrangements for the altar for many years.

Lenore was a long-time member of both the women’s organization P.E.O. where she was a past president of Chapter X in South Bend, and the Junior League of South Bend.   Lenore loved needlework (knitting, cross-stitch and needlepoint).  Lenore was a dedicated daily swimmer at the YMCA of South Bend for many decades and loved to walk and garden.

An outstanding cook and baker , she enjoyed fine dining and always was impeccably dressed.   Up to her final days she always wanted her nails and hair done.

Lenore and Tom lived on Eagle Lake in Michigan most of their lives and created family memories on and off the water that will last for generations.   She always had sweet treats at the ready for her grandchildren especially Snickerdoodle cookies and root beer floats.

Lenore and Tom were part of the first residents of Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame, where they lived their later years and enjoyed a robust life amongst so many friends.

We are especially grateful for the care provided by the staff of the Living Wisdom Center of Hubbard Hill and The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

A private funeral service will be held and later an interment of her ashes will be held.
