ELKHART - Charles J. "Charlie" Glueckert Jr., 82, of Elkhart, died at 6:25 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Elkhart.

Charlie was born Jan. 21, 1929, in South Bend, to Charles J. Sr. and Agnes (Abraham) Glueckert. In 1977 he married Claudine (Pearson) in Elkhart, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Glueckert of Michigan City; three sons, John C. (Micki) of Niles, MI, Keith A. (Donna) & Chris (Sarah) Glueckert, both of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Connie (Joseph) Thompson of Middlebury; two stepsons, Kevin (Susan) Pearson of Granger & Charles (Kathy) Pearson of Osceola; a sister, Marilyn Hillering of South Bend; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn Kalman; and by a stepdaughter, Charlene Inbody.

Charlie graduated from John Adams High School in 1947 and attended IUSB. Charlie was a veteran of the Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Charlie worked at Associates as a supervisor from 1948 to 1976 and then at Thunander Corp. in sales from 1980 to 1991. Charlie loved the outdoors, gardening, cooking, and was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He was a huge animal lover, a very giving person, and never met a stranger. Charlie loved spending time with his family and was a wonderful father and exceptional grandfather.

Friends may call two hours prior to the 12 p.m. (noon) Mass at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on Sat., Nov. 26, 2011. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery. Father Glenn Kohrman will officiate.

Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.
