George K. Krovitch, Jr.

Oct. 27, 1925 - Sep. 28, 2004

Mr. George Krovitch Jr., 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 28. He was born on Oct. 27, 1925, in Clinton, Ind., to George Sr. and Bessie Krovitch, and also has a beloved sister, Delores K. Campbell. 56 years ago, George married Martha Jean Garner, then having three sons, George, Raymond and Michael who all survive him.

After honorably serving in both World War II and Korea, he joined the South Bend Fire Department in 1947 and completed 22 years of service as a fireman and was one of the departments first ambulance crew members when the department started that service.

George also was an original founding board member of the departments credit union in 1959. And served as a board member until 2000. George was also involved with Little League baseball as an umpire for over 30 years. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and was a certified water treatment plant operator. And a member of the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church of South Bend where memorial contributions will be accepted. George was also active in the American Red Cross for 20 years as a disaster relief volunteer and went on numerous assignments in 20 states. George was completely dedicated to these four organizations throughout his life.

Friends may call today from 2 to 6 p.m. in the McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Evangel Heights United Methodist church, 114 N. Ironwood, South Bend, with Rev. Jim Butler, pastor will be officiating., and friends may call one hour before services. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
