Jean M. Barker, age 85, of Waterford Place, Mishawaka passed away Friday afternoon, July 3, at Howard Community Hospital, Kokomo, IN. Jean worked in the Bendix Exhibits Department, for the Bendix Corporation, worked in the office at Leichter-Phelan Chiropractic in River Park and as a church secretary for the River Park United Methodist Church.

Jean was born on August 6, 1929 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Percy E. and Mabel L. (Beal) Miller and lived in the South Bend area all of her life. She is survived by two sons, Gary (Sherry) Barker of Kokomo, Scott Barker of South Bend and their father, Richard J. Barker of Kokomo. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Melissa (Ricky) Matyas of CA, Dean (Jana) Barker of Avon, IN, Richard (Jill) Barker of Anderson, IN, Emily (Dietrich) Werntz of South Bend, Ian (Ashley) Barker of Indianapolis, Chloe and Tess Barker of South Bend, Nick Wernke of Lafayette, IN and Doug Wernke of OH. There are eight great grandchildren, three nephews, Stephen Miller of Miami, FL, Jamie (Renee) Miller of Granger, and Jay (Kelly) Miller of Zionsville, IN and a sister-in-law, Fedora Miller of Lakeland, FL.

One brother, Jay E. Miller preceded in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the Palmer Funeral Home – River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to funeral services.

Jean was a member of River Park United Methodist Church. She graduated from John Adams High School. She sang in many church choirs and local musical productions. She was a big fan of watching movies and was an avid reader.
