After one year at the Barbizon Modeling School in New York City,
Arlene entered Indiana University, where she received her Bachelor of
Science Degree in Business Administration in 1981 as an honor student.
During her life she enjoyed volunteering her services for worthy
causes and working in a variety of professional positions throughout the world. In
1974 she worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana, Africa, and traveled
extensively in Southern Africa. In 1997 she worked as a fiscal and budget officer for
the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense, at the American Embassy where she

Arlene Jean Kirk

Jun. 22, 1948 - Aug. 7, 1998

Arlene Jean Kirk, 50, departed this life while working in Nairobi, Kenya, and was called to her Heavenly Home on Aug. 7, 1998.

She was the youngest, born to the union of Frederick Arthur and Mary (Dunson) Bradley on June 22, 1948.

She was educated in the South Bend Indiana public schools and was a graduate of John Adams High School. After one year of the Barbizon Modeling School in New York City, she entered Indiana University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1981, as an honor student.

During her life she enjoyed volunteering her services for worthy causes and working in a variety of professional positions throughout the world. In 1974 she worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana, Africa, and traveled extensively in Southern Africa. In 1976 she worked at Parkersburg National Bank in West Virginia. In 1978 she worked as a loan officer at Ohio University until she moved to Lesotha, Africa, in 1979. In 1982 she returned to Botswana, until 1985. In 1989 she worked as a finance officer for the Cairo Community Service Association in Cairo, Egypt. In 1995 she worked in Nairobi, Kenya, as an accountant for the American Employees Association, and was a financial consultant for The American Club. In 1997 she worked as a fiscal and budget officer for the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense, at the American Embassy where she gave her life in service to her country.

During her journey to the Holy Land, Arlene and her family were baptized in the Jordan River in 1994. She was a faithful Christian and an active member of the Nairobi Baptist Church.

Her hobbies included collecting African art and Egyptian artifacts.

She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Kamilah in 1992.

She leaves to cherish in memory her devoted husband of 28 years, Robert Kirk, Jr.; a loving daughter, Maisha; a loving son, Robert ''Robbie''; parents, Arthur and Mary Bradley; three brothers, Dennis Bradley of Chicago, Ill., Neil Bradley (wife Jackie) of Detroit, Mich., and Major (Ret.) Kenneth Bradley (wife Linda) of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Patricia Bradley-Williams of South Bend and Katherine Bradley-Wright of Chicago; two aunts, Dolores Bullard of New York, N.Y., and Lucille Dunson of South Bend; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, at the Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, with burial following at Highland Cemetery.

Visitation will occur from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Indiana, 1806 E. 10th Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47130; or to Hospice of Louisville, 3532 Phraim McDowell Drive, Louisville, KY 40201.

Alford's Mortuary is in charge of handling arrangements.
