SOUTH BEND - Sterling Henry Winston, 54, passed away on February 5, 2014, after a short illness in Baltimore, Md. Born in South Bend, Indiana, May 17, 1959, to Napoleon and Cozzie Mae Winston, who preceded him in death.

Sterling, who graduated in 1978, received his high school education from John Adams High School of South Bend. In 1988, he attended truck driving school in Joliet, Illinois, where he graduated with honors. Sterling worked at several companies throughout his life including Allied Products in South Bend, In., where he worked alongside his father, and Phillips Industries in Elkhart, In., where he worked with his mother.

Upon moving to Baltimore, Md., he was employed by Becton Dickinson where he worked for several years when he passed. On September 1, 2000, Sterling married the former Rita Stevenson of Baltimore, Maryland. He became a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church at the Holy City Of Zion, and was baptized April 2010.

Sterling loved visiting his family especially his children in Arkansas and Kentucky. He also enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, cooking, listening to his valued collection of music, dancing, and gardening. He also studied his Bible. Sterling was a compassionate man, outgoing and very energetic. He was an avid dresser and loved having his picture taken. Sterling had a great sense of humor and a way with words like no other.

He leaves to mourn: wife, Rita Winston; his son, Sterling Winston Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky; his daughter, Andrea Turner of Wilson, Arkansas; grandchildren, Sterling Winston III of Forrest City, Arkansas, Danny Winston of Tenns Grove, New Jersey, Lakasha Turner, Latijah Starr, Tanyha Harris, Demanual Harris of Wilson, Arkansas; sisters, Sharon Lewis (Prentis), Ruth Winston, South Bend, In., and Linda Winston-Young (Roderick) Vancover, Washington; brothers, Richard Winston (Murdell) Bradenton, Fl., Dr. Reed Winston (Debbie) Baltimore, Md., Johnny Winston (Esther) Las Vegas, NV, Raymond Winston (Janice) Ferguson, Missouri, Thomas Winston (Paulette), Tyrone, Georgia, Glenn Winston (Nicole), Maryland, Dunlap Scott and Milton Winston (preceded him in death); a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Juanita Littlejohn; 6 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, all of Baltimore, Md.

Services were held at Vaughn Greene Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. Burial was at Interment Garden of Faith. A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2014, FROM 4:00 PM TIL 7:00 P.M. AT PENTECOSTAL CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST, 1025 WEST WESTERN AVENUE, SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601. ALFORD'S MORTUARY is handling local arrangements.
