Robert (Bob) Bennett Sr.

Sep. 15, 1940 - Aug. 23, 2018

Robert (Bob) Bennett Sr. passed away August 23, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bob was born in South Bend, Indiana on Sept. 15, 1940 to Vaud and Hazel Bennett.

He graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend in 1959. Bob joined the Air Force in January of 1960 and retired in February 1980. He always said, “I spent 20 years, 18 days and 6 hours on active duty but wasn’t counting”.

While stationed at Glasgow AFB Mt, in 1964 he met his lifelong love Patsy (Contway) Bennett who he married and had 49 plus years of marriage together. She was very special to him and preceded him in death in 2013.

They had three children Johanna (Darren) Palmgren, Thomas and Bob Jr. six grandchildren Dustin McNeill, Josh McNeill, Chance Mayer, Liam Mayer, Helene McNeill and Duncan McNeill. Three great grandchildren Chardeza McNeill, Dezreh McNeill and Jeramiah McNeill. Grandchildren meant the world to him.

His very special friends and caretakers were Patsy Byrd and Bill Koler. He worked for the state of Montana from 1980 to 1998 at Western Mt College. While there he took part time classes and received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Associates Degree in Human Resource Management in 1990. Bob loved camping, fishing and doing things with his family, grandchildren and friends.

Bob was an avid Ham Radio operator and was active in events to raise money for cancer and diabetes. Bob would like to share a note to his loved ones. “Please remember always, I love you all very much. (Things to do everyday) Reflecting on life. Time is precious. 1st Smile - Laugh, be positive and happy in the face of struggles. 2nd Think - Where you started from, Where you are now, and Where you want to be. 3rd Show Emotions - Be constructive, cry, focus on family, religion and your life’s work. Enjoy life – Make dreams come alive and set goals. MOST OF ALL “Don’t give up” “Don’t ever give up”.”

There is a graveside service scheduled for Tuesday, August 28th at 10:30 AM at Mountain View Cemetery. Donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
