Lois June Huffman Kollar

August 13, 1924 - Jan. 10, 2019

SOUTH BEND, IN - Lois June Kollar, 94, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019 at Heritage Point Assisted Living, Mishawaka, IN. Lois was born on August 13, 1924 to the late Ralph and Delores (Maggert) Huffman. Lois was a lifetime resident of South Bend.

On March 3, 1950 in LaPorte, Indiana she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Kollar and they enjoyed 32 years of marriage until his passing in 1982 at the age of 58.

Lois attended John Adams High School, class of 1943. Immediately after high school she began working at Ball Band until the birth of their first son. Later she worked at the Barrel Restaurant, Rouch's Eating House, and Mike's Restaurant, retiring from Martin's Supermarket. All of these positions allowed her to share her expressive bubbly personality with those she encountered.

Lois had the best and biggest garden in the neighborhood and absolutely loved all kinds of flowers. Yellow mini roses were her favorite. If she wasn't basking in the sun or working in her garden, you knew she would be with her friends, Sis, Pat, and Betty. They enjoyed visiting the casino and traveling to Las Vegas several times a year. Lois was an avid traveler and had visited several countries in her lifetime. She was the most gracious host, opening her home to many parties and reunions that were enjoyed by family and friends. She will be dearly missed for her little acts of kindness, her bright smile, and her fashionista style of matching clothing and accessories.

Lois is survived by her children, John (Pam) Kollar and Thomas (Julie) Kollar of South Bend; 3 grandchildren, Mindy (Larry) Stevens of Lexington Park, MD, Ian Kollar of South Bend, and Christy (Jared) Hopewell of Woodstock, GA; great-grandchildren: Oliver and Natalie Stevens of Lexington Park, MD; Mallory Hopewell; twins, Reid and Norah Hopewell; and baby girl Hopewell due any day, all of Woodstock, GA; sisters, Sandi (Dan) Sherry of Austin, TX and Sharon (Walter) Stump of South Bend, IN; and sisters-in law, Betty Huffman of Mishawaka, IN, Nora Huffman of Las Vegas, NV, IdaBelle (Don) Haughee of Granger, IN, JoAnne (Bill) Duncan of Elkhart, IN, and Marilyn (Paul) Potts of Edwardsburg, MI.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Jack Huffman and James Huffman; and in-laws, Betty Hosier, Albert Kollar, and Jack and Dorothy Gemmer.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Heritage Point Assisted Living Center for their loving care.
