Marilyn Tate – South Bend, Indiana, Marilyn passed away April 17, 2014.  Marilyn gave her life to Christ at a very young age.  She loved singing more than anything and sang in several choirs.  Marilyn is survived by her two sons, Michael and Damon and her seven grandchildren

Miss Marilyn Delores Tate, 58, of South Bend, Indiana has gone to be with the Lord. She departed this life on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. She was born on February 24, 1956 to the union of Rev. David T. Tate and Sis. Ruth (Woods) Tate in South Bend, Indiana. Both parents preceded her in death.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age and united with St. Paul Bethel Baptist Church where she was baptized by her late father, Rev. David T. Tate. She later joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in 1965 under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles G. Rowlette. She remained a faithful member there until her passing. Her church activities included the Sunshine Band; the Mass Choir and Junior Usher Board. Marilyn attended Linden and Perley Elementary Schools and graduated from Adams High School. She received her B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Brown Mackie College in South Bend.

Marilyn loved singing more than anything and during her adult life, she worked with several singing groups: The Blessed 2 Bless Ensemble; Clear Evidence Gospel Singers; Voices of Praise; J.D. Davis and the Empty Pocket Band; and of course, the Tate Singers. She had a love and a skill for barbequing and cooking many special dishes. Marilyn also enjoyed doing hair for her family and friends.

Marilyn leaves to cherish her memory her two sons: Michael Antone Hemingway of Denver, Colorado and Damon LaShawn Tate of South Bend, Indiana; 7 grandchildren: Tre Michael Hemingway, Michael Antone Hemingway Jr., Kelwyn Robert Hemingway, MiKayla Lenise Hemingway, Katelyn Marie Hemingway, all of South Bend, Shyniece My'Ree Betts of Columbia, Missouri and Dennis Jones of South Bend; 4 sisters: Dorothy (LeRoy) Jones, Dora (John) Engram, both of Chicago, Illinois, Margaret (Carlton) Thomas and Barbara Tate-Alley of South Bend; 2 brothers: David T. Tate Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, and Arthur Tate of South Bend; one aunt, Irene Conley of Chicago, Illinois; a special friends: Benita Owens and Carl Marshall; a god brother, Rev. Marvin Bingham; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. David T. Tate Sr. and Sis. Ruth Tate; half-sister, Lillie Mae Tate; nephew, KoizServices for Marilyn Tate will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Pilgrim Baptist Church, 116 N. Birdsell Street, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12:00 noon.
