Roberta D. VanAvermaete Tipton
June 29, 1939 - September 20, 2009
South Bend -Roberta "Bobbie" Tipton, 70, of South Bend, passed away at home on Sunday with her family around her and at peace.
Roberta was born on June 29, 1939. She is the daughter of her late parents, Robert and Elaine (Duffin) Sherman. South Bend has always been her home. On April 28, 1956 she was married to the late Ronald L VanAvermaete. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1987. On June 25, 1988 she married Hugh H. Tipton Jr.
Surviving are her husband, Hugh; children Jeff (Donna)VanAvermaete of Mishawaka, Laurie (George) Lacey of Port Huron, MI and Rhonda Grinnell of Searcy, AR; grandchildren, David Singleton, Cody and Charles Starks and a sister Beverly (James) Barcome of Mishawaka and a cousin, Jill (Butch) Cole of South Bend.
Roberta was blessed with two loving marriages and there are many more in-laws, nieces and nephews.
As a little girl Roberta soon became "Bobbie" the little tomboy who loved her daddy's big trucks. She was also the little girl who gave away her mittens because "They didn't have any." Bobbie grew up and gave her love and kindness to her family and friends. She was a loving mother and devoted to her children. She was "Mom" to them all and many of their friends as well.
She attended John Adams High School, was a member of Rainbow for girls. Bobbie was a bowler like many in her family. She had many friends in the bowling community, who loved her and will miss her greatly.
Visitation will be Today, Tuesday September 22 from 4-8 and one hour prior to services on Wednesday, September 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. The Rev. Ransom Ebersole will officiate. A private family graveside service will take place. Memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637.
