SOUTH BEND - Daniel J. Williams, 70, of South Bend, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday April 27 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Williams was born on January 2, 1941 in South Bend and resided in the Michiana area his lifetime.

Dan retired from the South Bend Police Dept., as a Detective/Sgt. And then went to work for Niles Chemical for 30 years. At the time of becoming ill, he was employed at Ivy Tech State College in South Bend as a security officer.

He is survived by a loving daughter, Dawn C. (Shannon) Kaser of Mishawaka, IN; also by two loving grandchildren, Carter and Hudson whom he loved and cherished. Four brothers also survive, Paul D. (Sandy) Williams of South Bend, Fred E. (Janet) Williams of Muncie, IN, Jerry Williams of South Bend and Jim R. Williams of Holiday, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Eva M. (Heath) Williams; three sisters, Eva Studebaker, Martha Fokey and Patricia Brewer. Also by three brothers, Robert, William and Phil Williams.

Dan was a veteran of the US Air Force and was proud of his military service. He was a member of the South Bend Police FOP Lodge 36, American Legion Post 303 in South Bend. He was an avid Notre Dame Sports Fan and loved all college basketball. He always looked forward to taking trips with his buddies and playing golf. He loved spending time with his two grandchildren.

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday May 1 in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home located at West Ireland Road / State Road #23, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at Calvery Chapel, 53494 Fir RD., Granger, IN, at 11 a.m. Monday May 2 with Pastor Bob Moore officiating. Friends may call in the church one hour prior to service time. Burial to follow at the Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

The family requests all memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , Memphis, TN. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled the arrangements and extend it deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Williams Family.
